New Year's Resolutions

"For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;

The Jewish month of Nissan -- the one we're in now -- used to be the beginning of the year.

It made more sense, I think. Start the year in the Spring. The Jewish year now begins in the Fall, and the Gregorian year begins in the dead of winter. This makes little sense, since it seems to me that the day we begin the year is actually quite arbitrary. I mean, if a year is 365 days long, who cares when we mark the ending/beginning of the cycle?

And Spring is a more appropriate time to have a new year. For, lo! It's a time of rebirth, of redemption (from slavery for those of us "chosen people" and from sin for those of you whose lord is risen).

So I'm celebrating the new year right now. Happy new year! And here are my new year's resolutions. Well, here are three I thought of on the spot.

1. Get my thirty minutes of cardio every day, and get thirty minutes of serious thought time every day. This thought time should be more productive then the time I currently spend every day contemplating my naval and making funny faces in the mirror.

2. Respond to emails the day I get them.

3. Eat healthier.

Those are a good start, huh?

Can't you multitask, and have your thought time while you're doing cardio? That's what I try to do, but usually I'm just checking out my ponytail in the mirror as I bounce on the treadmill...
